Current Perspectives on Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, and Education

Complicated international and cross-cultural conversations and cooperation in and through education have become critically necessary for human and ecological survival and renewal in today’s world, which is facing unprecedented, interlocking challenges. The purpose of this book series is to engage international readership in cross-cultural, intercultural, and transnational dialogues on how Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism in classical and/or contemporary schools of thought can inform today’s educational theory and practice. These dialogues invite creative, evocative, and inspirational lines of inquiry for educational, curriculum, and pedagogical insights. This book series promotes cross-fertilization of ideas, cultivation of new awareness, and explorations of alternative pathways to education.

While rooted in ancient wisdom traditions, Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism continue to evolve in contemporary times, gaining renewed relevance in both Asia and the West. The focus of this book series is on current perspectives, historically informed and critically analysed, and their contemporary influences and implications in the diverse settings of education. This book series welcomes manuscripts that draw upon one or multiple schools of thought within or across Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, and/or their intellectual, cultural, and spiritual relationships with Western thought to explore fundamental educational issues or specific content subject areas at all levels.

The scope of this book series includes all educational dimensions, covering topics such as aims of education, curriculum and pedagogy, ethics, cultural diversity, leadership, embodied knowing, personhood in education, ecology and sustainability, environmental education, and international studies and peace education, as well as re-thinking education in specific subject areas.
