In 2018, the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) Clinical Practice Commission (CPC) published A Pivot Toward Clinical Practice, Its Lexicon, and the Renewal of Educator Preparation—a landmark report articulating ten proclamations for transforming teacher preparation by centering clinical practice.
The AACTE Clinical Practice Commission Proclamations 1 to 5 in Action builds on that report. Featuring 5 chapters, each addressing one of the CPC's ten proclamations, and over 15 original case studies, the book provides concrete illustrations of how teacher educators, school-based partners, university administrators, and doctoral students are implementing the proclamations in a wide range of institutional and geographic contexts across the United States.
The book is organized around five of the ten CPC Proclamations: Central Practice, Pedagogy, Skills, Partnership, and Infrastructure. The companion book, The AACTE Clinical Practice Commission Proclamations 6 to 10 in Action, is organized around the other five CPC Proclamations: Developmental, Empowerment, Mutual Benefit, Common Language, and Expertise. Together, the cases across both books offer both the breadth and specificity needed to move the field from aspiration to implementation. In addition to university faculty, contributing authors include PK-12 school administrators, school-based teachers and teacher educators, and doctoral students, reflecting the volume’s commitment to centering practitioner voices alongside scholarly perspectives.
