Radio communications are a cornerstone of modern life, reshaping how we connect, work, and interact. In the years ahead, they will drive even greater efficiency in industries, safety in transportation, and sustainability in societies. INTERACT, a COST Action, envisions intelligent radio networks—aware, adaptive, and resource-efficient—to enable seamless, inclusive interactions between people and machines. These networks will serve as the nervous system of smart environments, unlocking new possibilities in transportation, manufacturing, and urban systems.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of the latest research in intelligent wireless networks, from broadband to low-power connected devices. It covers essential aspects of next-generation radio design, including propagation, signal processing, localisation, sensing, and network orchestration. Special focus is given to breakthrough technologies such as Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC), AI, Terahertz (THz) communications, and ultra-massive MIMO (umMIMO). Written by leading European and international experts, it explores key challenges and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.

Aimed at researchers, PhD students, and professionals in academia and industry, this book will also appeal to engineers and network operators deploying advanced private networks—5G, 6G, and beyond.
