The Handbook of Research in Middle Level Education, disseminates research focusing on middle level education and the education of young adolescents (10-14-year-olds). The overarching goal of the series is to disseminate current research on the status of middle level education and young adolescents both in the United States and internationally. The purpose of this series is to provide current research to middle grades educators, researchers, practitioners, and policy makers.
Prior volumes of the Research series have focused on middle level curriculum, instruction, & assessment, professional preparation of teachers, young adolescent development, health, & well-being, the implementation and effectiveness of common planning time, teaching and learning literacies, and equity & cultural responsiveness. The Handbook of Research in Middle Level Education is a companion series to The Handbook of Research in Middle Level Education series. Vincent A. Anfara, Jr. developed the Research series in 2000 and served as the series editor for the first five volumes. Starting with volume 6, Steven B. Mertens was invited to serve as the series co-editor. After the untimely death of Vince Anfara in 2013, Micki M. Caskey was invited to serve as the series co-editor. The series has continued to flourish and disseminate research to the field.
